Support Local During Coronavirus: Orpheum Children's Science Museum
In the greater Champaign County area, local businesses aren't just businesses. Our neighbors, family, and friends are all working to keep things as normal as possible amidst the COVID-19 precautions as outlined by the Governor of Illinois and the Champaign-Urbana Public Health Department. These challenging times serve as a reminder to residents in the greater Champaign County area just how wonderful our local businesses, restaurants, and community truly is. If there's ever a time to embrace #OutsideofOrdinary, it's now.
Orpheum Children's Science museum
Much like our friends at the Museum of the Grand Prairie, the Orpheum Children's Science Museum closed at a time where many students would be enjoying Spring Break activities and day camps. As of now, the Museum is closed through March 30th to support social distancing efforts. However, that doesn't mean the experiments and activities are postponed.
Every day on Facebook since March 17th, the Museum has been uploading a daily activity on their Facebook page. If you've been keeping up, then you know that the activities are providing a ton of education fun for families during these trying times. If you haven't been keeping up, then you have a ton of fun waiting for you to catch up on!
The Orpheum Children's Science Museum is also holding LEGO building competitions, with themes like "building something only using RED LEGOS!" All efforts online are providing a lot of joy for families who are taking precautions to stay indoors. Kids get bored fairly easily, but the Orpheum is doing its part for our community to keep families engaged on projects together as a form of bonding and emotional support.
If you're enjoying the activities at home, consider giving a donation to the Orpheum Children's Science Museum here. If you have questions for the Orpheum Children's Science Museum, email info@orpheumkids.com or visit their website.
HOW TO SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESS DURING THE CORONAVIRUS
As we see a reduction in business to our area, we continue to encourage the support of our local businesses and the hospitality industry. As of Sunday, March 15, it is state-mandated that bars & restaurants close through March 30. Please note that carry-out and curbside pick-up options are available. We are collecting information on these options and posting them here, but also encourage patrons to follow their favorite spots on social media for updates or call for more information.
We will continue to post updates on our Business Updates and Cancellations page as we receive them, but encourage everyone to take guidelines from the Illinois Department of Public Health and the CDC seriously.
