Updated Golf Course Regulations in Phase Three
A change in regulations during Phase Three of the Reopen Illinois plan eases some restrictions on golfing. Here are the updates as well as continuing practices enforced at our local courses.
LOCAL GOLF COURSES
As Illinois continues to reopen businesses and industries, local golf courses continue to draw residents and visitors outdoors. On May 29, golf courses can ease some restrictions. These latest updates include:
- Threesomes and foursomes for scheduled tee times
- Single-rider carts, with members of the same family, allowed to share a ride
- Driving ranges, practice ranges, chipping greens, and putting greens are permitted with 50% capacity
- Elevated cups to decrease how much of someone's hand is in the hole
- Pro shops may reopen so long as they comply with the retail guidelines
- Individual caddies are prohibited. One forecaddie per group is permitted to perform contactless activities, such as provide yardage, read greens, locate golf balls, and repair divots and ball marks. The forecaddie shall not carry golf bags, ride in golf carts, touch golf clubs/balls, rake sand traps, or remove pins. The golf club must have updated parental consent for all forecaddies under 18. Caddies shall not congregate in groups larger than 10.
Additional regulations that went into effect May 1 continue to apply. These include:
- Tee Times must be made 10 minutes apart
- Tee Times Highly Recommend
- No Touching of Flagsticks and the Clubhouse should stay closed
- Courses should post signs about what players should do
On top of these guidelines, some other normal behaviors should not take place either, such as handshakes at the beginning of the round or at the 18th hole. These rules need to be followed for golf to continue as our community reopens.
The following local courses and facilities are open with these guidelines in place:
Brookhill Golf Course, Rantoul
Champaign Country Club, Champaign
Ironhorse Golf Club, Tuscola
Just Fore Fun Golf Center, Champaign
Lake of the Woods Golf Course, Mahomet
Legends Golf Course, Champaign
Lincolnshire Fields Country Club, Champaign
University of Illinois Golf Course, Savoy
Urbana Country Club, Urbana
Willow Pond Golf Course, Rantoul
All area courses agree to comply with state regulations, and golfers should also familiarize themselves with the rules before setting a tee time. You can find the full list of state golf regulations here.
HOW TO SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESS DURING THE CORONAVIRUS
We will continue to post updates on our Business Updates and Cancellations page as we receive them, but encourage everyone to take guidelines from the Illinois Department of Public Health and the CDC seriously.
Residents can also visit a new online resource to help Champaign County businesses as they progress through the next stages of the state’s Restore Illinois plan. The new website - champaigncountysafe.org - was developed to maintain the safety and well-being of our communities and to share information and resources with businesses in Champaign County. The site will serve as a hub for Champaign County businesses to access resources, including re-opening guidelines, sample signage, PPE suppliers, local cleaning companies, local printers, and more.
Businesses are also asked to take the Champaign County Safe Pledge. The pledge sets out expectations customers can have when visiting local businesses, including:
• Employees wearing masks
• Employees frequently washing their hands
• Surfaces, equipment, and other elements of the business are regularly cleaned and sanitized
• Social distancing measures are in place
