Rock & Roll Saturday night featuring bands
from out of town that used to haunt the streets of CU:
White Lucy, Shop Class, and Todd Reese.
White Lucy is the Chicago duo of song-writers Chase Carson and Micah Boyce, crafting alternative R&B with a sharp emotional edge. Their new album, The Paradise, a sprawling 15-song release on Chicago label Shuga Records, moves from the familiar to the surreal, wrestling with love, loss, and the absurdity of it all.
Shop Class started in an uninsulated garage during an especially brutal Chicago winter;
with the help of heavy coats and a propane tank heater, the first pieces of their catalog were formed. Drawing inspiration from artists like Pinegrove, Phoebe Bridgers, Big Thief, and Andy Shauf, Shop Class explores the emotional weight of family ties, the complexity of loss, and the longing for a simpler past. Expect those themes and more on their forthcoming full-length album set to release next year.
Todd Reese is a singer songwriter with roots in classic country, folk traditions, and general midwestern sadness. Starting from Champaign County and ending in Champaign County, he sings of love, pain, joy, and family—finding humor where it’s there to be found and making it up when it’s not.
