Learn about the history of paper and shadow puppets as we make our own articulated characters and embellish them for an event that promotes telling stories with objects and theatrical play! Easy and accessible for all- demonstration and template provided, with lots of options for creative designs. Great for all ages.
Simmi is an artist and art educator, bringing his passion for puppetry from years of experience teaching multi age art classes in New York. He has worked with various puppetry organizations including Bread and Puppet Theater and the Calgary Society of Animated Objects. Simmi is currently studying art education at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign.
The Young Artist's Studio is a series of art workshops sponsored by The Urbana Free Library and The Urbana Arts & Culture Program designed to offer youth an opportunity to explore the arts. All events in the series are free and open to the public. The series is designed for children ages 5 to 11 (7 and under with a caregiver).
