Spring in C-U: Blooms, Tech, Art, Film, & More!

Art All Around

Discover over 100 local artists at the annual Boneyard Arts Festival, happening April 10–12. Presented by 40 North, the Champaign County Arts Council, Boneyard features local art—in all media—displayed in dozens upon dozens of venues across the area. You’ll not only be immersed in our vibrant art scene, you’ll see how diverse and inclusive it is!  Another 40 North production, PostMark Urbana is a downtown Urbana celebration held every second Saturday of the month, and features local art, artist workshops, performances, and a scavenger hunt at participating businesses.

Blooming Gardens

When the snow melts, the flowers bloom. We're talking peonies at Allerton Park & Retreat Center, cherry blossoms at Japan House, bluebells at Homer Lake Forest Preserve, and all kinds of varieties at Lake of the Woods' Mabery Gelvin Botanical Garden. Stay tuned to our calendar of events for scheduled tours, live music, and special events happening in these scenic spaces!

Outdoor Adventures

Our forest preserves and parks serve as a much-needed respite for our physical and mental health. From hiking trails and bike paths to fields and waterways—along with unbeatable stargazing—our natural areas provide ample opportunities to explore as we welcome warmer temps. Spring brings plenty of guided hikes, bird-watching, and many other activities in our natural environments.

Cuddle with Baby Goats

As farmers markets prepare to start back up, Prairie Fruits Farm & Creamery brings over 100 baby goats into the world each spring. Celebrate these gentle animals with visits to the farm, where you can shop Prairie Fruits' award-winning goat cheeses and gelato. You can also discover other locally made goods and take cooking, art, and nature classes in their newly built retail and classroom space!

For the Film Lovers

Pulitzer Prize-winning film critic Roger Ebert hails from Urbana, getting his start at the University of Illinois’ Daily Illini. The late journalist left a true legacy in our community with his annual  Ebertfest, a celebration of often-overlooked films. This year, Ebertfest: The Last Dance, will be the final Ebertfest in its current form, held April 17–18 at the Virginia Theatre.

Patio Season

Food tastes better when enjoyed on the patio. It just does. We fully embrace the warmer weather during patio season, with bars and restaurants in our downtown districts and across the region breaking out the umbrellas to enjoy lunch, dinner, and drinks with friends. In fact, Downtown Champaign alone offers over 2,000 outdoor seats!

Spring is a brilliant chance to explore and unwind—especially in C-U! Stay tuned to our calendar of events to keep up-to-date on all opportunities to get out!
