Champaign County Area Road Trip Guide: Tuscola and Arthur
Nothing beats a great road trip, and with so many things to see and do in the greater Champaign County area, a fun summer stay-cation is just around the corner! We'll be detailing a few trips to take outside of Champaign-Urbana, continuing this week with Tuscola and Arthur!
Tuscola Road Trip
Heading down to Tuscola, Flesor’s is a necessary stop for those with a sweet tooth. Hand-dipped chocolate treats and a flavor for every fantasy, Flesor’s has been a staple in the county and beyond since its opening in 1901. Eastern Illinois history is up next at the Douglas County History Museum. With exhibits, all focused on preserving and teaching the history of this part of the country across history, even those who do not find themselves drawn to museums will enjoy the artifacts, papers, letters, and more that you have to see.
Arthur Road Trip
Not too far south is Arthur, known for its impressive population of Amish residents. Thanks to a few friendly guides, the lives, and practices of the Amish people in Arthur are very receptive to visitor’s curiosity about the daily life of these men, women, and children. The experience of seeing an Amish furniture store, taking a buggy ride, and soaking in the vast farmlands are unlike anything else in the greater Champaign County area. Beachy’s is a general store in Arthur you will not want to miss as well. With a wide variety of products, including candy, baking essentials, and more, the eclectic collection can leave you losing an hour or so browsing all the Outside of Ordinary products. Downtown Arthur is also a must for shopping just about anything you could think of! There are country meats and cheeses, fun gift items at the Arthur General Store, and great antique shopping to be explored!
