Around the World in One (Champaign-Urbana Area Restaurant) Week

Passport? Optional. Appetite? Required. Champaign-Urbana Area Restaurant Week is the easiest way to “travel”—one meal at a time. From Vietnamese comfort classics to Northern Indian spice, Congolese favorites to Japanese fusion, these spots are serving big, bold, adventurous flavors! Here are a few highlights.
Tenkyu, downtown Champaign
Tenkyu is downtown Champaign’s go-to for Japanese fusion. Make it a sushi night with the Sushi Chef Grand, with 12 pieces of nigiri, 12 pieces of sashimi, and any two special rolls—a greatest-hits tour for sushi fans. Prefer something warm and cozy? The Kitchen Master Grand includes pork gyoza, tempura mushrooms, and any two bowls of ramen or udon. Either way, you win.
83 Vietnamese, Champaign
Mama Lam is cooking up a storm at 83 Vietnamese, and Restaurant Week is your chance to enjoy her delicious, super-secret family recipes. Start with fun shareables like a banh mi board and Cajun shrimp chips, then dig into favorites like pho, crab fried rice, a beef short rib plate, or the meatball banh mi dip. Come hungry and prepare to leave with a new favorite spot.
Café Sababa, Campustown
On campus and need lunch? Café Sababa— a kosher eatery at the Cohen Center—has you covered with their $15 “summer camp combo.” It’s got all the comfort classics: margherita grilled cheese, a cup of tomato soup, fries, a pickle, a cookie, and a drink. It’s cozy, it’s satisfying, and hits the spot.
Kohinoor, downtown Champaign
If you want aromatic and filling, Kohinoor’s your place. For Restaurant Week, they’re offering both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dinner menus built around Indian favorites—think curries, dal, biryani, masala, tandoori, and more. Each dinner also includes a samosa appetizer, mango shake, homemade green salad, plus rice or naan.
Mo’s Burritos, Champaign
Mo’s brings Salvadoran and Mexican flavors to an all-day Restaurant Week menu full of authentic favorites. Expect dishes featuring yuca, fried plantains, pastelitos, and casamiento (Salvadoran beans and rice), plus Mexican specialties like a pambazo—telera bread dipped in guajillo sauce (yes, it’s as good as it sounds). And if you’re bringing a friend, their $35 prix fixe dinner for two includes an appetizer, entrées, and dessert.
Sepelas African Restaurant, Urbana
Sepelas African Restaurant invites you to experience the rich, authentic flavors of Congolese cuisine—family recipes seasoned with traditional spices and passed down through generations. Their Restaurant Week lunch and dinner specials feature favorites like salt fish, grilled goat, kabobs, fufu, plantains, and sweet beignets. Go with an open mind and a big appetite!
Stango Cuisine + Wood N’ Hog, downtown Champaign
Two legends, one spot. Stango Cuisine and Wood N’ Hog are sharing a space in downtown Champaign for this year’s Restaurant Week. Enjoy a Zambian three-course meal, punctuated with flavorful samosas, entrées for vegans and meat-eaters alike, and melt-in-your-mouth beignets. Or build a soul food plate just the way you like it, featuring smothered pork chops, fried catfish, BBQ chicken neck bones (to name just a few)—all served with cornbread (plus add-on sides and dessert). Seriously excellent food, made with love.
Pick a place you’ve been meaning to try and make your way across the map—no passport, no jet lag, just really good food.
