Selectress Kinky P is a vinyl selectress, visual artist, and co-founder of Beatdown Soundsystem, Chicago’s heavyweight dub and reggae sound. Originally from Baja California, she began collecting records in 2001 and started selecting reggae in 2012, bringing a deep dedication to reggae in all its forms with a special passion for dub. In 2001, she founded Kinky Reggae, a clothing brand that visually told reggae’s story while supporting the local scene, a spirit that continues to fuel her sound system work today.
Through Dub Club Chicago, Kinky P and Beatdown have created a sanctuary for sound system culture in the Midwest, hosting legends like Channel One, King Shiloh, OBF, Iration Steppas, and Mungo’s Hi Fi while nurturing a homegrown scene rooted in authenticity and heart.
