Hands-On History Week at the Douglas County Museum
Starting Saturday June 7th to Celebrate our new Executive Director, Daphne Coffey – Running All Week!
Douglas County Museum | FREE ENTRY
Have you ever wanted to touch history? Here's your chance!
We're kicking off an exciting week of Hands-On History at the Douglas County Museum – and you’re invited to come EXPLORE and EXPERIENCE the past in a whole new way!
PUT ON A PAIR OF GLOVES AND COME ON IN!
Take a peek into what we preserve! Throughout the week, you’ll get to see several special items from our collection that are officially accessioned but not currently on exhibit. You’ll get a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse into the treasures we care for every day.
Take a selfie in our Military Hall of Honor with Kim McGee – hold a high-powered antique firearm and try on a vintage military uniform and hat!
Ever wanted to be a judge? Sit in a real courthouse chair and wield the gavel of justice!
Peek into the glass display cases to spot your old high school band, mascot, or cheerleader uniform!
Feeling fabulous? Try on a vintage hat from our collection, and explore handmade baby clothes, shoes, and undergarments from the turn of the century!
 Wander through our Main Floor:
See the Progress Industry truck and WWII floating ball made in Arthur.
Marvel at the bomb carrier made by Progress.
Squeeze into a first-grade school desk or sit in an auditorium seat from old TCHS.
Type a note on an old typewriter, flip through yearbooks from area schools, or listen to music on a vintage Victrola!
Snap a photo with our vintage Buick or motorcycle.
Remember your first haircut while sitting in Kenny Huber’s barber chair—or dare to try the electric hair curlers!
Step into the Past in Richmond Town
Become a grocery clerk, bank teller, linotype operator, apothecary, dentist, preacher—and yes, call your friend across the museum on a crank telephone!
