Celebrate Día de los Muertos through art, memory, and creativity at our Day of the Dead Altar Candle Decorating and Sticker-Making Workshop at the Makerspace Urbana Memory Lab (room 16 inside of the Independent Media Center).
Participants will decorate altar candles and create custom vinyl stickers using photos of loved ones they wish to remember or make offerings to. Each person will receive a vinyl sticker sheet for printing, up to two altar candles, and access to a variety of decorative materials to personalize their creations.
This hands-on workshop blends the traditions of remembrance rooted in Indigenous Mesoamerican and African cultural practices of Day of the Dead with digital design techniques, inviting participants to reflect on their connections to family, ancestors, and community through creative expression. Everyone will leave with up to two personalized candles.
