The first World Short Track Competition was held here in Champaign Illinois in 1976,
and 2026 celebrates 50 years since becoming the birthplace of international short track speedskating.
Champaign Regional Speedskating (CRS) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, and our mission is to help our community experience and enjoy the sport of speedskating. Between September and March, we skate at the University of Illinois Ice Arena. During the summer, we do off-ice fitness training. All are welcome to join us and become a member of the oldest speedskating organization in Illinois.
We serve our community by providing educational and competitive programs to support and develop amateur speedskating skills and competitors.
