Join us to attempt to craft your own textiles out of the supplies
we have provided for you. Whilst you craft, feel free to learn about,
feel, and experience different textiles from all over the world that
we will have out for everyone to experience.
Textiles are a vibrant expression of skill, style, circumstance,
and values across the world and across time. Whether it's the clothing
you’re wearing right now, intricate regalia of people long ago, decorations,
accessories, and so many more, textiles have evolved to be a richly
diverse and insightful aspect of peoples’ lives all across the world and time.
Consider the effort, intention, and use of textiles, whether you consider
them modern or ancient, simple or intricate. They all have a story,
whether it's how they are used, what they have witnessed,
how they were made, or the personalized value they hold
to people that interact with them.
Spurlock Sundays are free, drop-in programs held on one Sunday
of the month from 1:00–3:00 pm. Programs are open to visitors of
all ages and developed with youth and family in mind.
Spurlock Sunday activities can take a multitude of forms, from crafts,
games, performances, topical open-mic sharing, community conversations,
and hands-on experiences with cultural artifacts.
